Cerulean Sins focuses heavily on supernatural romance and sexuality, with some emphasis on Anita’s identity and empowerment. However, narrative is more driven by pulpy action and paranormal intrigue than overt ideology. While Anita is certainly hyper-competent at times, the book remains more about genre thrills than box-checking modern sensibilities.

The novel challenges traditional gender roles by presenting Anita as assertive, independent, and dominant, especially in romantic relationships. Some traditional norms are subverted, but the book doesn’t dwell on mocking religion, family, or masculinity. Moral ambiguity is present, yet not in a didactic or preachy way.

Though the cast is diverse and alternative sexualities play a role, dissenting or non-progressive perspectives aren’t overtly villainized or ridiculed. There’s a clear tilt toward sexual freedom, but not to the degree of modern ideological uniformity. The story stays mostly in its own supernatural lane.
