Bird Box Barcelona features some identity-focused casting and moralizing moments, but mostly keeps the focus on plot and suspense. There’s a noticeable nudge toward representation, but it doesn’t completely derail the story or turn all diverse characters into flawless heroes. Still, the identity-first approach pops up enough to earn a fairly high woke score here.

The film doesn’t explicitly attack religion, family, or traditional masculinity, but it often shows traditional structures as irrelevant or even dooms people who cling to old ways. There’s also a tendency to paint survival as reliant on rejecting faith or convention, subtle, but definitely present.

While the film avoids outright cartoon villainy for dissenting perspectives, the central worldview does lean hard toward modern sensibilities with little room for debate or nuance. Anyone not immediately on board with the post-apocalyptic worldview is often shut down or dismissed without much exploration.
