Dogville is a highly allegorical film, prioritizing storytelling and character complexity over superficial identity categories. It doesn't force representation or tick demographic boxes for the sake of ideology. Instead, it explores human nature's darker aspects through narrative-driven choices. Occasionally, its stylized approach overshadows grounded character development, but ideology isn't the driving force.

The film does present a rather bleak view of traditional moral structures, particularly through the town’s treatment of Grace. It critiques religious hypocrisy, small-town morality, and collective inaction, which some viewers could interpret as undermining cultural or community values. However, it doesn’t outright mock or lampoon religion or masculinity in the aggressively modern sense.

Dogville is more interested in philosophical pessimism than in pushing current social justice narratives. While traditional authority figures are shown negatively, dissenting or alternative views are depicted more as part of a universal flaw than as one-sided villainy.
