In our view, "Drive-Away Dolls" leans heavily into identity-focused storytelling, centering on LGBTQ+ leads and letting their identities drive much of the plot. This emphasis often overshadows deeper character development or organic story progression. The film appears more interested in being a showcase for representation than in nuanced character arcs or traditional narrative tension.

The film playfully (and sometimes sneeringly) subverts traditional values around gender, relationships, and sexuality, preferring a modern, irreverent take over any respect for older norms. Masculinity is often lampooned, and conventional family or romantic structures are only referenced to be mocked or upended.

Alternative perspectives barely get a cameo, with traditional or dissenting characters shown as punchlines, villains, or simply irrelevant. There's an overt ideological conformity among the main cast, with no real room for internal disagreement or meaningful debate.
