"Lift" seems eager to check boxes with its ensemble: diverse casting is clearly foregrounded, with personality and skill sometimes taking a back seat to identity markers. Main characters are recognizable ‘types’ representing modern demographics, which can make their arcs paint-by-numbers rather than organic or compelling. The heist plot survives, but the focus on representation sometimes overshadows genuine character dynamics.

Traditional themes like family, loyalty, or even masculinity feel sidelined, replaced with tepid group banter and safe, modern values. The film doesn’t attack tradition outright, but definitely prefers progressive camaraderie and downplays any old-school virtues or tensions. Moral stakes are sanitized and universal, rather than rooted in any familiar tradition.

Alternative viewpoints get little time or depth, nobody really pushes back against the prevailing groupthink. Dissent or complexity on hot-button issues is wholly absent. The film seems content to offer up a single, socially-approved worldview, with no real risk of anyone feeling challenged or startled by a hint of ideological diversity.
