Agent Carter centers heavily on Peggy Carter’s struggles as a woman in a male-dominated workplace. While well-acted, the narrative sometimes foregrounds her gender at the expense of organic storytelling, occasionally reducing male characters to one-note foils. However, Carter’s spy skills are genuinely earned and not entirely overshadowed by identity topics.

The short subverts traditional gender roles through Carter’s competence in a post-war, male-led agency. It paints traditional masculinity as clueless or needlessly obstructive, though not overtly villainous. Family and faith aren’t really featured, but the film prefers highlighting an upending of 1940s norms over celebrating them.

The only alternative worldview presented is the old boys’ club mentality, which is portrayed as outdated and buffoonish. There’s little real debate between perspectives; Carter is always morally and professionally ahead. While not as one-sided as newer Marvel entries, there’s limited room for complexity of thought.
