Slumberland features a strong young female lead as the main protagonist, which is becoming almost formulaic in Hollywood. While the story isn't aggressively about her identity, the casting and narrative focus sometimes feels chosen with current trends in mind over classic adventure merit. Still, the character displays genuine vulnerability and growth, so it's not a complete narrative trade-off.

The film has minimal traditional family structure presence, mainly spotlighting a father-daughter dynamic that becomes secondary to the dreamworld adventure. Classic themes like heroism and family exist, but often play second fiddle to quirky fantasy. There isn’t overt subversion, but neither is there a celebration of tradition, just gentle sidelining.

Worldviews outside the modern mainstream barely get a nod. There’s little real conflict with tradition and no real counterbalance to the film's general positive, progressive spirit. It’s not outright villainization, but alternative perspectives don’t really get represented either, it's ideologically safe and standard Hollywood territory.
