"The Last Summer" largely focuses on relatable coming-of-age experiences without aggressively shoehorning in identity politics. Characters are developed through their personal journeys more than their identity categories. There are some modern romance beats and a diverse supporting cast, but nothing feels egregiously forced or ideologically intrusive within the main narrative.

The film portrays relationships, young love, and family with a light, mostly non-ideological touch. There’s a bit of subversion in terms of traditional courtship and some modern attitudes, but it doesn’t go out of its way to attack or undermine family, religion, or masculinity, and avoids heavy-handed cultural revisionism.

While the movie generally sticks to safe, modern norms and doesn’t deeply question them, it doesn’t go to extremes or villainize dissenting worldviews. Most characters adopt fairly standard Millennial/Gen Z perspectives, but there are glimpses of differing life paths and values without turning traditional views into punchlines.
