What We Think

XXY tackles gender identity and intersex issues in a way that was fairly bold for its time. While not as overtly heavy-handed as recent Hollywood fare, its narrative and themes lean heavily into modern identity politics, challenging tradition without much nuance for the other side. Woke by 2007 standards, and still quite so by today's.
