Zardoz is far from a woke manifesto. Whatever its flaws, it’s more of a trippy, eccentric dystopia than a modern ideological lecture. Mostly harmless, unless bad sci-fi fashion offends you.

What is this?

Zardoz is one of those delightfully odd '70s films where storytelling is bonkers, but not because it’s woke. Identity politics aren’t really front and center; the focus is Sean Connery in a red diaper exploring dystopian weirdness. There’s more emphasis on exploring existential questions than ticking diversity boxes.

What is this?

While Zardoz lampoons religion and traditional morality, turning them inside-out for satire, it doesn’t push overtly modern, woke critiques. If anything, its approach feels more like a surreal acid trip than a calculated attack on tradition. Still, old-school family and faith get turned pretty upside down here.

What is this?

The film features alternative societies and different philosophies clashing more than an imposed monoculture. Sure, the Eternals are the weirdest hippie commune on record, but the story allows for plenty of tension and contrasting worldviews, even if it’s all a bit out there.
