Beyond: Two Souls primarily focuses on storytelling rather than social messaging. While Jodie is a female protagonist, her gender isn’t turned into a soapbox or treated as a gimmick. The story explores personal trauma and supernatural elements, staying grounded in its themes, with identity factors taking a backseat to plot and character development.

The game occasionally challenges traditional authority figures and touches on family struggles, but it doesn’t mock masculinity or core religious/cultural tenets, nor does it reframe history or push contemporary ideological values. Its handling of relationships and personal turmoil feels more character-driven than agenda-driven.

Alternative worldviews aren’t dismissed out of hand. Characters display a range of morality and beliefs, with both positive and flawed portrayals across the spectrum. The game steers clear of ideological preachiness and avoids caricaturing tradition or dissenting perspectives for cheap points.
