Divinity: Original Sin II puts storytelling and character development at the forefront. While players can choose the race, gender, and background of their characters, these choices genuinely affect the narrative, rather than feeling tacked-on for ideological reasons. There’s little evidence of forced representation or overwhelming focus on identity politics.

The game explores fantasy cultures, religion, morality, and traditional themes without overt subversion to modern sensibilities. Masculine and feminine traits coexist, and the world’s lore remains consistent with the genre rather than serving as a platform for cultural revisionism.

There’s a wide spectrum of beliefs and perspectives among the game’s factions and characters. Diverse ideologies are sincerely explored and none are unilaterally mocked or oversimplified, making it remarkably pluralistic for a modern RPG.
