Watch Dogs: Legion leans heavily into identity politics by allowing the player to recruit characters of any race, age, gender, or background, often prioritizing diversity over distinct personalities or well-developed story arcs. Many player characters feel interchangeable beyond their surface traits, and representation seems prioritized over deep narrative consistency or merit-based character inclusion.

The game tends to depict traditional authority structures (police, government, even family loyalty) as irredeemable or corrupt, and repeatedly champions countercultural activism. Masculine archetypes are undermined or subverted, while diversity of identity is overtly celebrated. It mostly avoids positive portrayals of traditional pillars like religion or national culture.

Pretty much all forms of dissent from the game's progressive worldview are presented as villainous or cartoonishly evil, think power-mad police, tech billionaires exploiting the masses, and stand-ins for 'the patriarchy.' Alternative views get little to no sympathetic airtime, and debate or real pluralism is lacking.
