“Adventure Time” largely prioritizes quirky storytelling and inventive fantasy over identity checklists. While certain later seasons add more overt diverse character elements, for most of its run, characters are fleshed out beyond token traits. The show’s focus remains on creativity and narrative fun, with any nods to identity rarely feeling shoehorned in.

The show gently subverts some traditional roles and occasionally pokes at the concept of family and authority, but it does so in a whimsical, irreverent way that fits its fantasy setting.
