Bad Monkey falls into some of the familiar traps of recent TV, side characters and background roles are obviously cast with an eye to diversity checklists, sometimes at the expense of narrative coherence. Identity traits are flagged repeatedly and can overshadow character development. The main story often pauses for commentary on contemporary issues.

The show takes a few shots at traditional values, family, authority, even religion aren’t portrayed particularly flatteringly. Masculine characters are sometimes lampooned or softened, and there’s a clear trend toward elevating alternative lifestyles as inherently virtuous. It’s not egregious, but it’s noticeable.

There aren’t many credibly-represented traditional or dissenting viewpoints, those that show up are often played for laughs or treated as antagonists. The worldview on display here aligns tightly with modern ideological trends, and it rarely lets up.
