Belgravia: The Next Chapter maintains a generally traditional period drama narrative, but introduces modern themes and diverse casting choices that feel occasionally out of sync with its 19th-century setting. While it doesn’t constantly hammer ideology, some character arcs and dialogue appear shaped to tick contemporary boxes over historical accuracy.

While the series maintains much of the period’s social structures, it sometimes modernizes gender roles and perspectives in a way that jars with the era. There’s a subtle undermining of aristocratic and religious norms, trading them for more progressive sensibilities that wouldn't have been as pronounced in reality.

While not completely monochromatic, traditional voices and conflicts often take a backseat. We mostly get characters echoing present-day values, with little room for genuine ideological diversity or nuance. There are token ‘old-fashioned’ characters, but they're more strawmen than meaningful counterpoints.
