Character arcs and conflicts often revolve around identity markers, sometimes at the expense of nuanced personalities and skill-based development. Representation appears front-and-center, occasionally overshadowing plot realism.

The show frequently challenges traditional values regarding race, family, and identity, often portraying established institutions and cultural norms as outdated or problematic. Masculinity, morality rooted in tradition, and more conservative values are generally scrutinized or depicted through a critical lens.
