"Faking It" leans heavily into identity-driven storytelling, placing sexuality and labels front and center, sometimes at the expense of nuanced character arcs. The premise itself is driven by social perception of sexuality rather than organic development. It often feels like the show is more interested in making statements than developing relatable, well-rounded characters.

The show subverts traditional norms, especially regarding sexuality, gender, and family. Straight relationships and conventional gender roles are lampooned or played for laughs, and new-age ideas about identity are positioned as default and superior. Traditional values get little to no sincere treatment here.

There's a pervasive sense that alternative or traditional perspectives are excluded or mocked. Anyone questioning the prevailing ideology is usually reduced to a punchline, and the show's moral universe allows little room for dissent or pluralism. It’s a one-way street ideologically.
