Killjoys features a diverse main cast, including strong female and non-white characters. While diversity is certainly present, most characters are reasonably well-developed and conflicts generally arise from the plot rather than heavy-handed messaging. That said, some character decisions and casting choices seem influenced by a desire for inclusivity over pure narrative fit.

Traditional gender roles are subverted to some extent with a female lead and emotionally vulnerable male characters, but these choices rarely feel like open mockery. Family and hierarchy play important, if sometimes unconventional, roles in the story. There’s occasional hinting that tradition is problematic, but it’s not overwhelming.

While a non-woke perspective isn’t outright villainized, the dominant view generally supports modern ideological values. Alternative worldviews are occasionally shown but tend to be simplified, and few characters sincerely challenge the prevailing norms.
