'Mortel' brings in diverse characters, but their identity markers often feel like they take center stage over deeper character development. Some supernatural plot elements seem tailored to current ideological trends rather than rooted in organic storytelling. Still, the show occasionally lets character flaws and tension shine through, which keeps it from feeling entirely like an identity checklist.

The series gives little real weight to traditional family or religious structures, leaning instead into themes of individualism and personal freedom. Masculinity is not aggressively subverted but often put in the backseat to the emotional journeys of its diverse cast, and cultural traditions aren’t much explored or are reinterpreted for modern tastes.
