Novo Mundo largely retains a focus on personal and national narratives suited to its historical telenovela setting. While there are nods to current sensibilities in casting and character arcs, it doesn't aggressively foreground modern identity politics over story development. Character competence and flaws feel fairly grounded in the context of the time period.

The show depicts religion, family, and traditional roles in a manner mostly faithful to early 19th-century Brazil. While some minor subversions occur, they rarely overwhelm the period-appropriate cultural backdrops. Traditional relationships and values are generally respected and not excessively lampooned or undermined.

While the main perspective is liberal by telenovela standards, there is a reasonable spread of worldviews, monarchists, revolutionaries, loyalists, all shown with moments of empathy. Sincere alternative perspectives exist without being portrayed solely as villainous or backward.
