Traditional narrative elements, such as plot progression or varied character motivation, often take a back seat to the overarching ideological themes. Some viewers may feel that these priorities eclipse nuanced storytelling or relatable conflict.

The show frequently challenges traditional family structures, gender roles, and even religion, painting them as obstacles or antagonistic to LGBTQ+ lives. Almost every monologue is a corrective to established norms, with traditional values rarely presented in a positive or even neutral light.
