The Canterville Ghost (2021) does feature some updating of characters and situations to be more inclusive and modern, with emphasis on identity and diversity themes. That said, the basic story remains intact for the most part, but certain characters appear to have been crafted with more attention to contemporary sensibilities than to original narrative logic.

The show gently pokes at old-school British values and slightly subverts traditional gender roles, but doesn’t do so as aggressively as recent Hollywood fare. Still, the reverence for classic structure is diluted by the injection of modern worldview sensibilities and tweaks to familial or moral depictions.

Alternative (i.e., more traditional or conservative) views are mostly used for comic effect, and characters with 'woke' traits rarely face serious narrative critique. The show seems to treat progressive positions as the obvious norm, reducing honest engagement with dissenting perspectives.
