The Crossing spotlights refugees from a war-torn future and gives identity-based backstories prime focus over deeper individual arcs. While not egregiously forced, representation choices do seem to lean on current social trends, at times feeling a tad shoehorned. It doesn't fully sacrifice plot, but there's a clear ideological flavor influencing casting and motivation.

The narrative subtly undercuts traditional notions of family and authority. There’s a persistent suspicion of government/military figures, alongside the elevation of outsider and marginalized characters. While it stops short of outright mocking core cultural values, it prefers empathy for outsiders over celebrating established norms.

Alternative perspectives, especially those reflecting conventional or skeptical viewpoints, are mostly relegated to antagonists or sideline voices. The show tends to present its progressive worldview as default, with little room for genuine internal ideological debate or sympathetic portrayals of dissent.
