Thicker Than Water appears to focus heavily on identity politics, with much of the dramatic tension and character choices filtered through a lens of representation. Diverse casting and themes seem prioritized over organic character development, as several main figures feel defined more by demographics than depth or skill. Narrative sometimes feels like it's taking a backseat to the show's social messages.
