This film doesn’t challenge or subvert religion, family, masculinity, or cultural traditions at all. The story centers on a boy, his family, and their new alien friend, with traditional values left intact (and plenty of McDonald’s hamburgers).

There’s no obvious ideological monoculture. No aggressive moralizing or caricatures of traditional perspectives. The movie simply wants to be goofy, heartwarming, and commercial, that’s about it.
