While it’s a satire, the focus on diverse identity over deeper character development feels a bit shoehorned. Narrative takes a backseat to social commentary at times, as if the writers are ticking boxes rather than telling a tight story.

The series regularly pokes fun at traditional leadership, masculinity, and even family values, often portraying these as embarrassing or failed relics. Religion and old-fashioned morality are either absent or the butt of jokes. The worldview here is almost allergic to anything remotely traditional, preferring to lampoon rather than explore cultural norms.

Alternative or traditional worldviews exist mostly as comedic strawmen in Avenue 5. Most characters operate with the same modern, progressive assumptions; those who don’t are painted as bumbling fools or outright villains. There’s almost no room for sincere debate or nuance, the ideological landscape is as uniform as the interior of a spaceship.
