Borderlands delivers plenty of flashy representation, but often seems to focus more on quirky identity politics and surface-level diversity than meaningful character arcs. Several characters check boxes rather than exhibit depth, and narrative choices feel driven by buzzwords over genuine story. Some fans might say personality and growth take a back seat to modern sensitivities.

The film leans heavily into mocking traditional roles, with masculine characters often either bumbling or sidelined. Authority figures and family themes, when present, are mostly fodder for subversive humor. Classic heroism or even a nod to established values? Borderlands seems to blast those away like loot in a chest.

Borderlands rarely features any alternative worldviews that aren't simply played for laughs or as punchlines. Dissenting perspectives are virtually nonexistent and when they appear, it's usually to make them look ridiculous or retrograde. It's a shiny example of the current ideological groupthink dominating big-budget studio releases.
