The Wilds is packed with identity-focused character arcs, often emphasizing race, sexuality, and gender over skills or organic personality development. The show leans hard into assembling a perfectly diverse group, with several characters given ‘super special’ status regardless of questionable decision-making. This comes at the expense of believable tension and growth. Narrative occasionally takes a back seat to ideology, with melodrama prioritized over authenticity.

Family dynamics are routinely portrayed as toxic, religious backgrounds are presented with suspicion or as sources of trauma, and masculinity barely makes an appearance except in negative light. Traditional values get little respect, while girl power and modern social commentary dominate. The show seems intent on painting anything ‘traditional’ as something to be outgrown, if not outright mocked.
